An air conditioning unit that is more than 10 years old would probably save money by upgrading to a newer, more energy-efficient model. Depending on just how old your current AC unit is, it is possible to see energy savings as high as 40-50%.

A reputable air conditioning repair company in Phoenix, AZ can perform routine maintenance on your a/c system for the upcoming summer season. During the same visit, ask the air condition service technician to help you determine potential savings in energy costs if you upgrade to a newer a/c model. You can also include savings in time and labor since newer ac units require much less air conditioner repair than older models.

In a desert state such as Arizona, and populated cities such as Phoenix and Scottsdale, remember these tips: a) have a/c service performed at least twice each year, b) upgrade to a newer air conditioner when your unit is outdated, and c) always seek advice from trained air conditioner service providers in good standing with the local Phoenix business community.

Parts of the US are experiencing the worst bitter cold and snow in many years. Here in Phoenix, Arizona, overnight temperatures can occasionally get close to freezing, which is bitter for this part of the country and requires a little homeowner landscape maintenance.

To keep your plants from being burned by the overnight frost, make sure to cover them lightly with a sheet or other light draping material if the temperature turns much lower than 40 overnight. Remember to remove the draping during the daytime when the sun is out.

Here in Phoenix, Arizona, it seems like home owners are constantly resetting the watering times of their automatic sprinklers. While it is really just twice a year, it is an important step to take for the health of your yard and landscaping.

In Phoenix, AZ, our temperatures vary by more than 60 degrees during a typical winter day or summer day. In order to maximize water usage and keep your plants fresh and stable, it is important to recognize the different needs. In the winter months, run the sprinklers in the midday, for shorter periods, and less days per week. This ensures that your landscaping receives adequate water but does not cause freezing or root rot. In the summer months, water overnight or early morning, longer periods, and more days per week. This uses the water efficiently and ensures that none is lost to evaporation.

If you have difficulty deciphering the codes of your sprinkler system control box, contact a reputable landscape maintenance company or other licensed contractors.

This is the time of year that residents in Arizona - particularly in the Phoenix Valley of the Sun – live for! Open windows and great outdoor activities. The fresh cool air brings a wonderful feeling of renewal to your home.

Now is the time to take down all of the outdoor window screens and give them a thorough cleaning. You will be amazed what a difference it makes in the fresh air quality once you knock off that thick coat of dust that the screens accumulated all summer long.

You might also consider finding a window cleaning company to wash all the windows and brighten up your home, or an awning company that can create shade for those windows on your home with full sun exposure.

The lowest price might seem like a smart decision, but when it comes to choosing a contractor that can prove to be a costly mistake for bargain hunters. An unlicensed contractor or unqualified contractor can leave you with sub-standard work on one of the most significant assets you own: your Arizona home.

The Arizona Registrar of Contractors (AROC) website offers free information for consumers about how to locate and choose a licensed contractor. The website explains that, “… with a licensed contractor, you as a residential property owner have significant protections not available to persons utilizing an unlicensed contractor. This is your guarantee should the workmanship be below standard or in violation of existing codes.” Fortunately, AROC makes it easy to verify the license and good standing of all contractors in the state. Contact them at www.azroc.gov or by calling 602-542-1525 or toll free

As the monsoon winds and storms blow through this time of year, our yards and homes in Phoenix, Arizona, tend to see disarray and even damage. Make sure that you check your roof for signs of broken or missing tiles, and that the flashings and vents are all still in place and in good condition.

It’s a best practice to visually inspect your roof a few times each year so that you know what it should look like. Caution: do NOT go out onto a tile roof; make this inspection from the ground level. After a storm, if you see anything that looks out of the ordinary, call a roofing contractor - qualified licensed contractors - to make a further inspection and any needed repairs.

Pool contractors get loads of questions from homeowners in the Phoenix area about water levels during the summer. With our hot, dry climate, sometimes you might begin to wonder if all that water loss is really just evaporation.

Fortunately there’s an easy way to tell: Take a large plastic bucket (about 5 gallons) and sink it onto the first or second step of the pool. Make sure that the water level in the bucket exactly matches the water level of the pool, and make a mark on the side of the bucket with waterproof ink at the water level.

Check back throughout the week. As long as the water in the bucket mirrors the water level of the pool, you are seeing normal evaporation. If the water in the pool drops SIGNIFICANTLY faster than the water in the bucket, you might want to consult a pool care professional or pool builder to have them check for leaks.
